This is a matcha whisk, also called a chasen. It's a traditional Japanese tool used to prepare matcha tea.
The whisk is made of bamboo and has 100 fine teeth (or bristles) at the bottom.
What it does:
The purpose of this whisk is to thoroughly mix matcha powder with hot water. By whisking quickly, the whisk ensures the matcha powder dissolves completely and prevents lumps from forming. It also helps create a light foam on top of the tea, a characteristic of well-made matcha. The 100 teeth ensure efficient mixing and a fine foam.
